Science Fun Facts For the Week

  • It is estimated that the temperatures inside the sun reach 15 million degrees celsius.
  • The sun is composed of about 70% hydrogen and 30% helium.
  • The sun is about 109 times wider than earth and about 330,000 times as massive.
  • The sun contains about 99% of all the mass in our solar system.
  • After all the hydrogen is consumed in the sun, it will consume all of the helium.  At that point, it will continue to exist for about 130 million years, but it will expand to the point where Mercury, Venus and the Earth will be consumed as well.
